Chimney settling, separation, or tilt

Often homeowners find that thier chimney is starting to develop a slight tilt. Usually it becomes even more evident when the chimney actually begins to separate from the building that it is attached to, and large cracks can be seen on the sides of the chimney or down the brick that make up the chimney itself. This is caused by the massive weight of a chimney pushing down on the ground under it. The ground begins to slowly shift, and then the chimney soon follows. The good news is that it can be fixed! A settling chimney certainly doesn't mean that you will absolutely have to tear the chimney down and replace it. There are a number of solutions to this problem, depending upon the specifics of each case.
